PVC ELIMINATOR BLIND DIRECTIONS

First, start off by making 2 pieces for the blind.  You need a base and a middle frame.  The base is simple; just make a rectangle 4 by 7 foot with PVC and Elbows.  That’s your base; simple enough… now make your top frame.  Make a rectangle 4.5 feet long and 28 inches wide.  That covers top view A.  (Both pieces are shown there).

Next cut your support rods.  You are going to need:

4 – 20” long
2 – 19” long
2 – 18” long
2 – 23” long

Cut those first before doing anything.

OK now it is time to start marking the frames.  It is important to mark the frames in the exact same places on each side and end.  When you make a mark it is important to measure each way a half inch to make up and inch difference for when you put the blind back together this allows for the gap in the PVC T.  Make the mark clearly with dark permanent marker.  You must take out an inch at every cut or else you will end up on a different scale.

Do all of your marking first and then look at it and see if it is correct before you cut.

On the Bottom base that is 7 ft. by 4 ft. on the front and back make 2 marks at 13 inches in from each edge of the elbows.  Do the same on the front end.  DON’T FORGET TO MAKE ROOM FOR THE PVC T’s.  Keep everything laying flat on the floor in the same basic shape and space the parts apart.  Next we mark the base along both sides.  (If you don’t understand just look back at drawing #6 entitled “Numbering”) mark the base 14” from the back measuring from the elbow edge.  Do this on both sides.  Next mark from the back 37” from the elbow edge on both sides.  Now mark 23” from the front elbow edge back on both sides.  Now cut out an inch at every mark to allow for space for the PVC T’s.

Now for the top frame.  Cut the frame in half as shown in the drawing then cut 4 inches in from all of the elbows.

Label all of your base pieces from 1-10 and your top frame pieces from 30-39.  This keeps them segregated.  Now take each piece individually and sand the bottom 1 inch of it where it is to be connected to a T.  DON’T FORGET TO SAND AND PRIMER THE PIPE, T’S, AND ELBOWS!!  This will take some time.  Sand and primer all spots where to be connected.  Don’t forget the lengths that you cut.  Don’t sand to the point that things fit loosely, just use a low grit sand paper and rough things up a bit.  I would advise using a rubber mallet and put things together first.  When everything is cut keep it in the same basic shape as it was in before.  When I make mine I put the top frame inside of the bottom frame as shown on Top View A, Page #3.  Then I marked and cut and kept everything in order and really didn’t move anything.  This will make things a lot easier.

Start by putting the base back together by using the T’s.  I use a piece of PVC 30 inches long to move the T into the correct angle.  Now take your lengths of pre-cut pipe and stick them in the T’s and then attach the top T’s.  You should not have to adjust much; everything should just fall together if you have the proper angles and lengths of pipe.  Now if you are completely satisfied, take it apart by smacking with a RUBBER mallet.  I am not going to tell you how to make the doors; they are just pretty much self-explanatory but use the same procedures.  Measure before you cut and don’t forget to take out the 1-inch allowance at every cut.

You will need:

MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF YOUR PVC SUPLIES ARE FOR ¾ INCH PVC.

6 – End Caps

20 – 90 degree Elbows

35 – T’s

90 Ft. of ¾” schedule 40 PVC

PVC Primer and Glue

60 Grit Sand Paper

Hacksaw or PVC Cutters

Tape Measure

Permanent Marker

10 Hours of your time

This is figuring on screw-ups too so you will have a few left over!

 HAVE FUN!!!

 Front View
The front view basically shows the approaching side of the blind.  It gives the constructor a basic idea of the sidewalls.

Side View.
The side view shows the downward slope of the front and rear of the blind.  It also shows the downward slope of the blind itself.  The reason the side view cannot be slopes any further is because there cannot be too much stress on the T’s at the top connections.

Top View A
This basically shows the outline of the blind from above.  It shows the basic framework also showing just how this blind is meant to be used.

 Top View B
This view shows the support rods that are the key factor of this blind.  They make it all happen.  Be sure not to mess this part up because they are the key to this blind.

Doors
The doors are the easiest part to make.  There will be no re-cutting required.  These also need to be a perfect fit or else you are in a heap of trouble.  The support rods in the middle are not necessary but do make the doors a whole lot more durable and they make nice handles to close the blind.

 Numbering
Numbering is crucial because you must re-cut the blind at every place you want to put a joint.  Once you have all of these pieces cut you don’t want to spend all day figuring out how to put it back together so number your pieces in 2 places in case one spot gets warn off.  Also, don’t forget to cut out 1-inch spaces in the PVC at every cut because of the gap in the PVC T’s.  There is a 1” gap of space between where the pipe fits just look at one and you will know what I’m talking about.

 Gluing
I would strongly suggest sanding and applying primer to all of your connecting pieces.  It is the only sure fire way to make certain that the glue will hold under stressful conditions.  Do this or you are in for a nightmare.  Also, use a good grade PVC glue.  Don’t go get the cheapest things you find because you know what the saying is, you get what you pay for.

PVC

I purchased my PVC at Lowes department store as well as all of my elbows and T’s.  I used schedule 40 PVC because it is supposed to be a little tougher.
